sedditSearch any Reddit user's posts and comments

Privacy policy

seddit searches public Reddit history. This page explains what happens to your data when you use it.

No accounts or tracking

There are no accounts and no login. seddit sets no cookies and uses no analytics or trackers.

Rate limiting

Each visitor can start one new search every 10 seconds. To enforce this, seddit keeps a hash of your IP address and of your current search, made with a secret key. Your IP address itself is not stored.

These hashes are held in memory only and never written to disk. An entry expires 30 minutes after your last search request. The key is replaced daily, and all entries are dropped with it.

Logs

The app keeps no request log. Its error logs never include visitors' addresses. If fetching from the archive fails, the error logged can name the Reddit username being fetched, but not who searched for it.

A reverse proxy or host in front of the app may keep its own connection logs. Those can include your IP address and the pages you request, and search addresses contain the username and keyword you searched for. seddit's code doesn't control those logs.

Thumbnails

Post thumbnails load straight from Reddit's image hosts. When you view results with thumbnails, your browser contacts Reddit, which can see your IP address as it would for any image. No referrer is sent, so Reddit isn't told which page you were on.

What is stored

When a username is searched, seddit fetches that user's public Reddit posts and comments from the Arctic Shift archive and caches them in a database. It also records each searched username and when it was last searched. None of this is linked to the visitor who searched. Your IP address is not sent to Arctic Shift, and keywords are not saved to the database.

The cache has a size limit. When it passes that limit, the usernames searched longest ago are evicted along with their posts and comments.

The archive

Arctic Shift is a separate service, and seddit doesn't control it. The archive can include content that was later deleted on Reddit, and someone who hid their profile on Reddit may still be searchable. Items already cached are not checked against Reddit again.
